A narrative opening has the titles running through out. An example of a narative opening is the film Panic Room. We know its a narrative opening as the film introduces us to the character and the location. It also does not include any SFX alongside the title.
A discrete opening does not give any information about the film such as the character of location. An example of a discrete opening is Enemy of State. We know its a discrete opening as it has effects such as opacity reduced to reveal one clip under the other, colour filter and graphics. It also included edits such as time manipulations as shots changed.
A stylised edit is opening that contains a lot of SFX. An example of a stylised edit opeing is The Taking of Pelham 123. We know its a stylised edit because it contains SFX that match the films storyline e.g. the black strip running other the words like a train. The location and characters are also shown.
