Research: Film Audiences

Film audiences are the most important factor in making a film, the audiences are the customers who pay to watch the film or buy it on DVD, all the money comes from the audiences. There are many audiences who enjoy watching different genres and sub genres. A film is not for everyone, each film made has a different target audience. The film makers have to make a film genre, which most people enjoy watching, to make more profit. Thriller movies are one of the most popular genres to the film audience, as it can create a wonderful films, you can use it as one genre on its own, or use it as a sub-genre and create a wider target audience, by combining it with another genre. Thriller films can be enjoyed by everyone, but it is mostly aimed at teenagers to young adults, as they enjoy tension and suspense. Thriller movies slight male skew but sometimes can change if added a sub-genre. The thriller audience is slightly has more of a male skew, and mostly aimed at people aged 20-50, but that depends on the sub-genre.



Action thrillers: Action thrillers have more of a male skew, because men are seen to enjoy violence, guns, explosions and bombs. For example the film DEJA VU, is an action thriller aimed at males aged 15-33. On the poster we can see an explosion which shows the audience that the film is an action film. Also we see the main actor Denzel Washington, who mostly is featured in an action thriller film.




Romantic thriller: Romantic thrillers have more of a female skew, because women are usually seen to enjoy romance. For example the film OBSESSED, we can see that there is love and romance between Idris Elba and Beyoncé. Also at the back we can see Ali Larter, who looks jealous, you can tell from her face expression.


Supernatural thriller: Supernatural thrillers have more of a female skew, because woman are seen to like children and supernatural films usually have children in it, women are thought to have maternal feelings. For example the film The ORFANATO, on the poster we see a woman who looks like nurse holding a baby, also there are hands of little children reaching to the woman, which represents supernatural.






Psychological thriller: Psychological thrillers have a male and female skew, because a psychological genre needs more of a mature mind. For example the film MEMENTO, we can see on the poster there is a man in a picture, who looks a bit worried, this called show us that the man is being watched as he might have some psychological problems.
